We were able to work with one company. We didn’t have to worry about integration between our routing software and our GPS systems, it was all there. What we get from that saves us so much time and money.
Transportation Director, West Fargo Public School
Hi, I’m Brad Redmond, Transportation Director here at West Fargo Public Schools.
We operate 29 of our own regular ed routes, we contract 24 routes with Valley Bus and we have 12 special ed routes.
We offer routing, so we pick up students for reguar ed, we pick up students with special needs, which includes preschool up through our Transition Academy which is up to 21 years old. We also bus all of our field trips and all of our sporting events.
We are currently using VEO Now, which is our GPS system and we are using VEO Transportation, which is where we do all of our routing. What’s nice about it is it’s calendar-based. And that kind of flexibility is valuable for us. Because that’s the reality of transportation.
We have students going to different locations on different days and this system allows us to do that. I couldn’t find another system out there that does this.
Once it’s up and running, it pretty much runs itself. The daily updates are done. It also feeds into our VEO Now, so new students moving into the district are automatically issued RFID cards. We also gave the schools access so their administrative staff can look and see where did a child scan on, where did they scan off. It’s very powerful that way.
There are so many functionalities that it gives us, not just to my office but to the schools. The number of call that we have taken about students that are lost has gone to almost zero.
A lot of things, a lot of moving parts that happen. Our routes aren’t static one year to the next. They’re changing constantly and what’s nice about the VEO routing is that you can make those scenarios in the future. And really analyze them.
We’ve been able to really maximize the capacity in the way that we want to and find those efficiencies so we don’t see the increase in our bus fleet like we were.
I love it. Yeah, I’m very happy with it, I think it’s very cutting edge. I think somebody’s really put a lot of time into figuring out what districts need for routing and for busing and they’ve put those components into the software.
We were able to work with one company. We didn’t have to worry about integration between our routing software and our GPS systems, it was all there. It’s easy to pick up. I mean, it’s so easy to work with. You know, the big thing is just the seamless automation of it.
It’s just priceless. What we get from that saves us so much time and money.
