Efforts to mitigate health and safety risks for our most vulnerable, are pushing the NEMT industry to evolve from mainly "transporting people" to delivery-based services. A significant investment in transportation infrastructure for non-human transportation is a solid win for the NEMT and Healthcare industries.

There's great news for the Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) industry. The $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan makes provisions to boost coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). And with the anticipated increase in NEMT trips being done under Medicaid, substantial business will flow to NEMT Brokers and Providers.

The positive feedback from focus groups far outweighed any negative experiences. While the most impactful revelation came from participants who had an emotional response at the thought of losing NEMT. Their biggest fears were health regression, mental health deterioration and some even said NEMT was "life-saving".

Over the past decade there's been a trend for MCOs to bring the NEMT benefit back in house to further enhance their suite of transportation services. As a result of this shift, emphasis has been placed on MCO's to have greater service compliance standards.

"Ride hailing" or "ridesharing" Transportation Network Companies, also known as a "TNCs", have emerged as providers in the NEMT arena. But given that TNCs have very few restrictions before allowing their drivers to take the wheel, the verdict is out on whether this type of service is good or bad.
