Our department is called Care-a-Van. We are a division within CARTA. We pick up people with disabilities or elderly folk who cannot get on our fixed route buses. My whole way of thinking is not just about transportation, it’s about helping people. It’s about doing whatever you can. In 1989, when I first started with this company. We had no scheduling software. Everything was done by hand. It entailed, if somebody called and changed their destination, you either whited it out or balled it up and started allover again.
Here we are today, in 2016 – I cannot imagine – I can’t wrap my head around ever even attempting to do this without technology now. Our scheduling software has allowed us to do a multitude of things. It has allowed us to pick up, number one, a lot more people. The clients don’t have to call us for a lot of the small things that they can get from the driver. It’s just making everything much more efficient. And it’s helping to do a lot more with a lot less.
One of the main things our drivers love about the software is they don’t have to ask the dispatcher where is a certain street anymore. If he wants to find out how much Jane Doe owes or how much her last payment was, if he wants to find out how many more trips she has – all of this, we can do with our scheduling software. And this is also with our trip app.
We have ventured out. We contract more. And to me, I could do none of that – especially not as fast –without TripSpark. We haven’t always been with one single vendor – we were with different vendors –and to me that was a headache. If you have everything up under one umbrella, software-wise,technology-wise, period, you pick up the phone you call one person.
I’m so happy with it. I can’t imagine going anywhere else and not even for free. I can’t imagine using anything else. And that’s the honest truth. Why go and try the rest, if you already have the best?
